Wolves Win! Wolves Nation should be proud of the way the athletes played on Friday night. They fought through the heat and humidity to earn another victory 42-6 over the Wapello Indians.
Once again we started out strong with two touchdowns in the opening frame. With a long touchdown pass to Garret Baker and a 14 yard touchdown run by Darren Hunter we were in business. The great thing about that first quarter is we faced some adversity with a fumble during a special team play but the defense held firm and the offense went back to work. The offensive line did an incredible job on Friday night. Max Huston, Matthew Niebuhr, Sam Jennings, Warren Krieger-Coble, and Jordan Hudson were outstanding on Friday. They paved the way for 230 yards on the ground led by Darren Hunter who had 170 yards. WMU hasn't had a rusher that high in a few years. Kolt Rossiter had another efficient night throwing the ball. Because of the hard work of the guys up front he was able to have time and deliver the ball on time and on target to our receivers. He has done a nice job this year of being efficient making decisions and delivering the ball. Defensively the Wolves were led by Bryce Robison in tackles. Sam Jennings played another solid game at inside linebacker for the Wolves as well. Max Huston, although not many tackles in the stat book, played an outstanding game at the DE position for the Wolves. He was very fundamental in turning plays in and setting the edge for us on Friday night. We recorded two interceptions Friday as well. One by Garret Baker and one by sophomore Kaleb Hagge. We were also able to force and recover two fumbles. Max Huston and Matthew Niebuhr were able to recover those for us. We once again won the TO battle and that led to a victory. This week we travel to Eldon to take on the Cardinal Comets. They are 0-2 but we all know that any team can have success on any given night. It should be a little bit cooler this week and on Friday and I look for our young men to have another successful night if we can stay focused and execute the way we are supposed to execute. There is a JV game tonight at WMU Field at 6:30. We are hosting the Wapello JV. Hopefully the rain and storms will subside so that we can get this one in. These young Wolves deserve a chance to get a game in after practicing for close to four weeks. Thanks again for your support of the program through coming to games, supporting our fundraisers, and/or listening on the Wolvecast. For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU! Get up Wolves Nation! It's game day vs Wapello. Make sure to wear your WMU football shirts to work, school, and to the game tonight. Come out and support our young men as they take on the Wapello Indians at 7:00 p.m. here at Winfield. It's going to be a hot one so hydrate before you come out. Sounds like mid 80's at kickoff. Let's go get one tonight!

Good Thursday morning Wolves Nation! I hope that you are finding a way to stay cool this week and stay hydrated. I know I've had that conversation with the boys about staying hydrated. We've been taking water break after water break and making sure the boys are getting their fluids during practice, I just hope they're taking care of themselves outside of practice.
We've been prepping for the Wapello Indians during this week. Wapello put up 41 points in their week 1 game vs New London. It appears that their Running Back is a pretty solid player as well as the "fullback". Some of you WMU people that have been around for a while might recognize the name. He is a Pforts kid. We will need to make sure that we tackle as a team and play solid fundamental defense to try and contain those two runners. We've been perfecting what we do on offense and you might see a new wrinkle on Friday night but I'm not going to tell you what it is on here. You'll have to come out and support us or listen live on the Wolvecast. I will post the link tomorrow if you need it or go to our school homepage and go to it from there. We are excited and ready for the next opportunity we have to prove ourselves and show off the hard work and dedication we have given to the program. Check back on Friday night or on Sunday for the game write up. For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU! Also, anyone that is a supporter of the WMU football team if you could help out the BRP and work a concession stand to help out the athletic boosters that would be greatly appreciated. Make sure they know that you are a football parent or supporter. |
