It's a great day in the field, WINFIELD! I hope this message finds Wolves nation to be enjoying the weather as it sure looks like spring out there.
I am writing today about the WMU Football Leadership Council that we are trying to start within our program. It will consist of players that have met the criteria laid out by the coaching staff. These guys will be the leaders of our team, helping promote our program, lead community service initiatives, learn about leadership from the coaching staff, and other activities. I am looking forward to seeing what these young men can do. I think that with the council started and involved we will have young men that lead each other through practice, games, and build relationships that will lead them through life. If you are reading this talk to your own WOLF that is part of the football program and encourage them to be a part of this. If they're not a leader we will make them one. If they are a leader, we'll make them better! For those before us, those of us now and those that follow, WE ARE WMU! WMU CORE VALUES: 1. ENERGY 2. COMPETE 3. TOUGHNESS & DISCIPLINE 4. FAMILY & APPRECIATION 5. FINISH & PAYDAY I hope this entry finds everyone getting ready to enjoy their spring. Today is March 1st, feels like it should be be the beginning of spring. Spring sports are just getting started and it looks like plenty of football guys are participating. I hope through our work with our athletes in track and our golfers do some running on their own we can improve our speed. That is one area that has been lacking for years here and hopefully we can make it a priority and improvement. We are doing a competition this offseason called "Building a Tradition". Each point or "brick" that they earn will help them towards different awards. Below is how the points and the information is laid out: As you can see we are not only putting a stress on competition and attendance in the weight room, but excellence in the classroom and participation in other sports. I like what I've seen so far. The leaders as we sit today 3/1 are:
1st Juanito Piper 2nd Carter Hinkle 3rd Collin Hinkle 4th Jared Arnold 5th Daunte Oepping Thank you to the guys that have dedicated themselves to our program and that have dedicated themselves to improving their mind and body this offseason. We are going to start some OTA's with our young men and hopefully we will be able to transfer some of our hard work on to the field next fall. Stay tuned as I unveil the Core Values of our Program. For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU! |
