It was a great night last night for the WMU baseball team. The Wolves hosted New London at home for the first round of post season play. It started out a little shaky for the Wolves as they found themselves down 7-2 in the 3rd inning. But a big 4th and 5th inning with four runs in each got them the lead. Garret Baker came in for 5 1/3 innings of relief work and only gave up 1 ER. Matthew Niebuhr had a huge night at the plate going 3-4 with 3 RBI's. Darren Hunter had a big hit, Sam Jennings just missed a home run, and Kolt Rossiter was able to find his way on base every at bat and scored a couple runs. Niebuhr had a huge outfield assist from center field that cut down a run early in the game as well. With the win the boys will play on 7/16 at home vs Burlington Notre Dame. Make sure you either come out and support the boys at the ball park or tune into the wolvecast and listen as I call the game. It's a great day to be a wolf.
We are in the middle of week 7 of summer training. The numbers are fading a little with vacations and fairs and things like that but one thing is for sure. Those that are coming are giving great effort. Also I have noticed that the athletes that have come consistently and have given great effort when they are there are making huge strides. Some of the athletes have become solid. They have replaced some of the goo with muscle and are looking good. Our strength and speed have improved from last summer especially and even from the spring. The coaching staff looks forward to the testing to see what improvements we have made.
That's it for today. Check back for updates on the baseball team and weight room news. Don't forget that camp will be from Monday August 3rd through Thursday August 6th. Check previous posts for camp sheets. Print one out and either turn it in to me or Central office Barb Brown.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
