Spring time 2019
Welcome back to the blog. I've been away with basketball and now track. We've got lot's of our young men our for track, golf and soccer this spring so there are plenty of opportunities for our young men to compete. What we are lacking is them in the weight room getting stronger. The track runners are lifting during practice and there are a handful of golfers that are coming in but we have guys that aren't taking advantage of our facilities like we need to. We will never compete as a TEAM until we workout together in the same facility all the time. It is proven that guys that lift together, win together. It is a great chance to build team chemistry, trust, and relationships amongst each other.
I've been digging through some archives and stats. I will put on a stat sheet that includes offensive and defensive stats from 2012-2017 in 11 man football and last years 8 man football. I do not have access to any stats before those years. Those are the years that I've been the head coach. You will find those on the stats and goals page.
We've been through the clinic season and now we are in the spring improvement season. I look forward to our team gathering on May 4th. We will start at 9:00 a.m. by video installation of our playbook and then finish with burgers at Coach McCarty's house to top off the day. It should be a fun time. All players need to let Coach McCarty know if they can or can't attend so supplies can be purchased.
We have our schedule all filled up with nine games and we will be competing against a team from Illinois this season for the first time I believe in 8 man school history.I believe the last time it was done in 11 man was the 1993 season. We will be playing River Ridge from Hanover, Ill.
Stay tuned for a new episode on the podcast this week or next. We've been busy here and now there is a chance to get out some new material. Great stuff from books and speakers that the coaching staff has listened to and learned from.
As always we appreciate all the support we get from the community. Big Red Pride Booster club has stepped up in a big way for us the last couple of weeks by helping us purchase new helmets, purchase hudl for football, volleyball, and boys/girls basketball, as well as help us purchase Teambuildr which is our weight lifting software. I urge you to help out in a concession stand at least once or twice a year. Thank you to BRP and their members.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
Standards of excellence:
1. Be disciplined.
2. Execute with excellence
3. Serve others
