This week is senior night on Friday. I'd like to take some time each day to spotlight a few of our seniors everyday. This group has been a major part of the turnaround here the last few years. They were freshman when I started as head coach so we have grown together the last four years. I appreciate each and everyone of them whether they've been a four year starter or a scout team player. Some have played all four years, some two, some one. Doesn't matter, I appreciate their effort and attitudes everyday.
Garret Baker
Garret has been a player for all four years for us. He has started for two full seasons for us. He is the current school record holder for TD receptions in a season and leads the district in receptions and yards. He has 500 yards on the season so far. For Garret he says that his favorite football memory was beating WACO last year and clinching a playoff spot for the first time in 15 years. Garret plans to continue competing this year in basketball, track, and baseball. Garret will continue to work on his grades as he looks to attend college somewhere and run track at the next level.
Collin Gerling:
Collin is a four year player for us as well. Collin has continued to improve for us every year. He has done a nice job of coming to practice and working hard everyday to improve. Collin's favorite football memory is also making the playoffs last year. For the rest his school year he will be working with a college counselor to work for more scholarships and also enjoy the rest of his senior year. His post high school plans include attending Coe College for psychology or chemistry and the ultimate goal is to earn his doctorate.
Both of these young men have been important to the turnaround of our program. I wish them the best and hopefully we have a few more weeks together in the football setting. Stay tuned all week for more senior spotlights.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
