The Wolves did it again! Move on to 7-0 after defeating WACO at Wayland 36-13.
We were ahead at halftime 14-13 after not playing a very good first half. We had an interception and just didn't tackle well. We had started out hot though and took the opening drive downfield seven plays 71 yards for an opening score. Offense was a little stagnant in the first half but was able to find their stride a little better in the second half. Defense was the same way. We struggled tackling and how to make some plays and at halftime we made a handful of adjustments and the the athlete's credit they took those and played lights out in the second half causing two turnovers and not allowing points for those 24 minutes.
Darren Hunter played very well for us on both sides of the ball. He had a career high in tackles and not bigger than a stop on a WACO fake punt. He also had 14 carries for 115 and scored a two point conversion. This is the first game of the season that he hasn't scored a touchdown. His running back partner Bryce Robison had a nice night toting the ball as well. He had 11 carries for 51 yards which isn't that impressive but he did score 3 touchdowns on the ground. Kolt Rossiter and also had a rushing touchdown for us and he threw one to Zach Davis.
Both Sam Jennings and Matthew Niebuhr had 9 solo tackles for us as they were very productive in the second half. Hunter and Robison were active on defense as they were the ones to recover the fumbles for us as well.
All in all, it was a big win for the program. We were able to beat that team to the West and improve to 7-0 overall. This sets up a big one this week with homecoming and the Van Buren Warriors coming to town. It is homecoming this week so we will have some distractions but I think that our group of young men are up to the challenge. They can see what is able to be attained and they will give it their best shot this week.
We have a JV game tonight and I expect a great game for our JV players. They are in the town to the West for the kickoff at 6:00.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
