Good Monday morning! If there is such a thing. Hopefully all you in Wolves Nation had a great weekend and were productive. I know the coaching staff was productive doing yard work, house work, and helping people move from one house to another. Hopefully you did something outside to enjoy the weekend and even helped out a friend at some point.
There is a boys track meet tonight in Van Buren. There is always some good competition down there with Albia being there. Boys should have some good races where they can measure how well they stand up to some stiff competition.
Golf is off tonight. They have conference on Wednesday. Hopefully all week the rain will stay out of our competition time and the boys, both track and golf, can get their meets in.
This morning, and the rest of the week, we are taking a step back on the weight lifting and reteaching the proper form to lift. It is tough when guys show up in the middle of a cycle and just join. Right now we are introducing our new dynamic warm up and movement preps. Through our warm up and movement preps we should be able to loosen up the hip girdle that gives our athletes a lot of trouble. As coach Klopfenstein and I were talking today, it is an epidemic in young athletes right now with hip mobility. What I attribute it to is the lack of playing and moving outside. They are the video game generation and it shows when they are trying to do something that involves hip mobility. Ankles and hips are weak and tight and we need to improve that. All of our athletes, even the ones that consider themselves flexible have room for improvement. Being flexible is good for your muscles to grow, recover and will help keep you injury free. Hopefully after this week we will have give the boys some tools in their tool box so that they can continue to improve their flexibility and mobility.
Don't have much more for you on this gloomy, humid and wet Monday morning. The desks and about everything else is sticky in the school. Summer months have started.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
