The Wolves do it again!
On a great night for football in Winfield for the WMU homecoming the Wolves put on a great show for the crowd winning the game 78-8 over Van Buren. Wolves fans were treated to passing TDs, rushing TDs, and interception return, and a punt return. The young fellas that came in at the end got a score as junior QB Kleyton Benedict scored on a 38 yard run.
Wolves were led offensively by Darren Hunter and Bryce Robison on the ground. Both had 12 carries. Hunter had 12 for 65 yards and two TDs. Robison had 165 yards and 3 TDS. Hunter did a fantastic job blocking for Robison all night. Both of these young men have had a great season and the last couple of games have really shown it.
We didn't have to throw the ball very much as Kolt Rossiter was 5 of 6 for 145 yards and TDs. He threw a TD to Hunter as well as Zach Davis. Rossiter was very efficient and led the offense on a night where we had short fields and short drives.
Defensively Matthew Niebuhr and Sam Jennings paced the defense with 11 and 10.5 tackles respectively. Niebuhr also forced and recovered a fumble on the last kick off of the game. Jennings had an 67 yard interception return in the first half. Bryce Robison also had an interception on the night.
Robison had a busy night not only on offense and defense but also on special teams. He recorded a 67 yard punt return for a TD. That is his second punt return of the year.
We talked all week about getting out to a fast start and that is exactly what we did on Friday night. We scored 32 in the first quarter and 32 in the second. Needless to say that this was a fast start and we want to build on that for next week.
Thank you to all of Wolves Nation for the support during the week and at the game on Friday. We've got another big one on Friday night and we hope to see you all there cheering loudly as we play for a district title against Pekin.
Great win on Friday and it pushes us to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the district. Thanks again for the support.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
