Good Tuesday morning Wolves nation,
We are at the end of basketball season as our boys team lost last night 60-50 against Holy Trinity Catholic of Fort Madison. Our boys struggled a bit this year but hopefully throughout the season they were able to learn valuable lessons about perseverance, integrity, discipline, and what it is going to take to run a program around. The WMU-CJ wrestling program is sending two young men to Wells Fargo, although not WMU FB players we still wish them good luck. Bring home some hardware. Create memories and history.
As far as our offseason training is going our young men continue to show great discipline and desire to improve when they are in the weight room and gym. I've tweeted a lot about it the last two months but there is an energy right now in the weight room and out in the gym that is business like, that is almost palatable when we are working out. We've been missing that energy in workouts in recent history. In my opinion we are looking a group of young men that have had enough losing and are willing to do the work to improve their body's and minds. I can't express how excited I am when we have workouts. I just love watching them hold each other accountable on squats, reps, effort, etc. I believe that this is the year that we turn things around and get this program trending up again.
As far as coaching goes we have an offensive playbook put together and are editing and discussing it as a coaching staff. We have to remember that everything looks good on paper and we will need to continue to tweak and make things as simple for our young men to learn. We would like to play with some tempo, and in order to do that we have to have young men that are in shape. We are working on our conditioning every time we have a workout too. Just like legendary Coach Bo Schembechler we should have all our players run a 7:00 min mile. That would be something wouldn't it? Clinic season is coming up. We are planning on attending two clinics, one in Des Moines as well as Lake Rathbun near Albia. These two clinics have great speakers and we are looking forward to enhancing our knowledge, growing as a staff, and learning from some respected and successful coaches.
Have a great rest of your week. Read a book, watch some hudl, and enjoy the process of getting better.
Do what is necessary, when it is necessary, for as long as necessary.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
