Today I am going to spotlight two guys. Both of them have moved into the district and helped out our programs.
Darren Mertens:
Darren Mertens has played football for the WMU program for 4 years. He has been a player has improved himself and these last few weeks has had a string of good practices and is showing some improvement. Darren is a kid that works hard in practice and is always one that will step up and play scout team at any position that we need him to. For that I am grateful. His favorite memory is going to the playoffs for two straight years. He is planning on passing high school and thinking about joining the National Guard. Good luck D-Mert, we need guys like you protecting our country.
Darren Hunter:
Darren moved in during his freshman year and has played football for us ever since. He is a 3 year player that has given this team a lot hard work. Darren was not the feature back last year and thought about being one this year. He worked at it over the summer and has done a really nice job for us this year. I'm not going to lie but I was weary if Darren could take the punishment as a feature back but he has excelled and I couldn't be more proud of him. He has stepped up his game on offense and defense and is also our long snapper. Darren is a great young man that can be very successful in life because of the way he treats people. Darren's favorite football memory is clinching a playoff birth after defeating WACO his junior year. He plans on making the rest of his senior year the best as possible and play more sports. He plans to attend college next year but he is undecided.
Once again thank you's go to these two guys, the rest of the seniors as well as the underclassmen, parents and community for their hard-work, dedication, and support. If your son wasn't spotlighted it is because he never turned a sheet back into me.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
