Today we will spotlight three of our seniors. Two of which have been four year starters for us.
Sam Jennings:
Sam has been a football player for WMU Varsity for four years. He has started all of the games in his four years. He was honorable mention all-district his freshman and sophomore year, first team all-district his junior year as well as first team all-state punter last year. I look forward to seeing the accolades that Sam receives this year. As of now Sam is leading the State in Class A in INT returns for TD, and is in 5th for solo tackles. Sam has done many things for us in his four years, he has played Center, and Middle linebacker primarily for us. He has also filled in at fullback and has been a lightsout punter for us. Sam's favorite memory of WMU football was last year when we beat WACO to clinch a playoff spot. For the remainder of the school year Sam will participate in basketball, golf, and baseball. Three other sports that he has excelled at as well. Sam is looking to attend college ang play football at the next level after graduation.
Kolt Rossiter:
Kolt is another athlete that has played four years for us. Kolt has had the privilege of playing quarterback and spending every practice with me. He and I have developed a great working relationship that I will miss after he graduates. Kolt started at QB midway through his freshman year and has started ever since. He has really improved, shown from his stats from last year to this year. Last year he threw 15 TD and 15 INT. This year it is 15 TD to 2 INT. Kolt's favorite memory was beating WACO his junior year to clinch a playoff birth. He has played an important part of turning this program around. After football season Kolt will play golf and baseball. He has been a successful member of those programs as well. He is also looking forward to playing pranks on his classmates. Hopefully he keeps to his classmates and not his Spanish teacher/ football coach. After graduation Kolt is looking to attend the University of Iowa and study nursing.
Beau VanAmerongen:
This is Beau's first year on the WMU program. Beau decided last year that he was going to go out for football and worked hard in the offseason to prepare himself for this season. Beau has been an amazing teammate and scout team player. He might not get the minutes on the field on a Friday night but he has been a very important part of our success this year. He is one of those guys that is one play away. He is also one of those guys that is just a nice guy. His favorite memory is the memorable season we are having and being a part of that. After football season Beau will be done playing sports but will continue to work on finishing school with high marks and work. Beau is a very hard working kid. Beau is planning on attending college but has not decided where yet.
Once again, thank you to these seniors and all members of the football team. Whether you've been a four year starter, or just came out this year, your work and dedication to the team has created a winning culture around here. Thank you.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
