Welcome to the beginning of week 2 of the summer.
We started our second week of summer lifting and SAQ this week. Still holding strong at 40 male athletes. As a coaching staff we were wondering how many of the kids would show back up due to the difficulty of the workouts and SAQ part of it. (SAQ= Speed, agility and quickness) But as always in every summer program we are beginning to run into the athletes going to camps, clinics, jobs, conventions, and vacations. We know these things come up and that most of what you are doing is helping you become better at one of your sports, but that being said workouts need to happen as well. If you are going to miss make sure that you are doing something that day you are gone. A workout missed is an opportunity missed to improve yourself. Do something on your own, pushups, prisoner squats, dips, lunges, sprints, go for a run. These are the types of things that will improve not only yourself but your team as well.
This past weekend I was reminded of how relationships matter in life. I am not one to preach and dwell on these types of things but just a reminder to the students that read these, your parents love you and make decisions for your well being. You don't have to like their decision but respect it and move on. Tell them you love them whenever you get a chance. Same goes for adults, be firm with your children, raise them the right way and tell them you love them. For those of you reading this at work today, when you get home hug your family, put your cell phone/computer down for awhile and enjoy what you have. You never know when it will be gone.
Baseball plays tonight in Wapello. You will be able to listen to it as it is simulcast from the Wapello announcers. I have the call tomorrow on the Wolvecast. Boys will be playing Pekin. A couple of tough games for them this busy week. The baseball team will have five games this week. Monday at Wapello, Tuesday home vs Pekin, Thursday at Highland, and two at a tournament on Friday. They even play one on Saturday. So a busy week for those guys as they continue to hit the weights hard and chase a conference title. That's all for now, check back middle of the week for another update.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
