Good Football Friday morning!
We have had some success here at WMU yesterday. Freshman Kaleb Hagge is moving on to the state golf tournament as an individual. He carded a 78 yesterday in Oskaloosa to continue his season. The team missed the cut by 9 strokes but they had a real nice season. Congrats to Sam Jennings, Kolt Rossiter, Kash Rossiter and alum Thayne McElhinney. They have had a real nice season out on the links.
As for our track runners football athlete Garret Baker ran the 200 yesterday in the state track meet. He ran his personal best 22.99 to make the finals on Saturday. That means he will be returning home with a medal. Good luck to Garret in the finals on Saturday! Zach Davis also participated yesterday in the state track meet. Zach long jumped and earned an 11th place finish. He popped off another 20' jump. The coaching staff is proud of both of these young men. Our distance runners ran yesterday and earned a 7th and 9th place finish. Congrats to them as well. Today the 4 x 200 team will compete. Football players on that team are Garret Baker and alum Keaton Pallister. The alternate on that team is Bryce Robison. Good luck to them as they look to medal and make some noise up there. After that we have a miler on Saturday and now Garret as well. Good luck to those boys this weekend.
Through the season we have had some kids do a lot of great things. One thing, I know it is hard for me, to remember is that they are only 15, 16, 17, or 18 year old kids. They will make mistakes and decisions that we as adults might not understand or agree with. The thing is, these kids need to make those bonehead mistakes or decisions to learn from them. They are kids doing sports. That being said, have an enjoyable Holiday Weekend. If you know a current or retired military service person make sure to thank them. If you know of a fallen soldier make sure you take time to thank them in your thoughts or their families as well. Remember this holiday isn't about grilling out and the beginning of summer, it is about the men and women that have served our country and paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
For those before us, those of us now, and those that follow, WE ARE WMU!
